Our Goals

“It’s not just about building a bridge; it’s about building a future.” – Amit Ray

01

Connection

Through a variety of workshops, events, and other engagement options we aim to connect as many people as possible with art, educational experiences, and opportunities for artistic expression. From live shows to virtual seminars, etc., we want to make literature and art more accessible to our communities!

02

Bridging The Gap

We understand that people can not fully enjoy or create art while constantly preoccupied with the overwhelming stress of trying to survive. We want to provide support to community members, organizations, and businesses already on the ground doing the work of bridging critical resource gaps. By joining forces to offer people access to what they need to thrive, we aim to, in turn, equip people with the opportunity to center joy and art.

03

Other Curated Events

We are excited to curate original artistic, educational, and community engagement experiences, and we aren’t stopping there! We are also thrilled to promote, support, and work alongside our affiliate groups, businesses, organizations, and other community leaders as they host their own events & activities across San Antonio and Central Texas that further our mission to make the arts more accessible!

Tomás is one of the most versatile and dynamic spoken-word artists living and working in San Antonio.

I have known Tomás since he was one of the shining stars of the youth poetry slam scene in our city, and I have had the pleasure of following this young man’s phenomenal rise as a poet and performer for more than a decade.

His artistic talents have impressed me so much over the years that he is now on my short list of poets who I contract when I am organizing the literary components of some of San Antonio’s biggest cultural events!

“Diamond has a way of taking the unpleasant things about life and making them beautiful, even while acknowledging the pain of it all…the type of poet that makes me want to be a better poet.”

About Us

Diamond Mason

With modest beginnings as a founding member of an after-school Poetry Slam club, internationally touring performance poet & 2023 San Antonio Poet Laureate Nominee Diamond Mason has championed literacy and expression through a myriad of mediums for 15 years and counting. Having steadily grown into a seasoned and celebrated artist, educator, and local reproductive rights advocate, their presence in the spoken word arena has had a leading influence on the Central Texas scene. Additionally, Diamond partners with organizations such as Unite for Reproductive & Gender Equity (U.R.G.E.) and Planned Parenthood South Texas to facilitate complex conversations in creative, thoughtful and engaging ways, and aims to continue their pursuit of compassion, community, and shared knowledge via art as a part of Shyne Through’s ongoing mission.

Artistic Philosophy: A delicate balance of “do no harm // take no s***” and “find magic in as many places as possible.”

Tomás Julián

With 20+ combined years of experience in creative writing, performance, and education, San Antonio son Tomás Julián doesn’t just want to encourage his community to explore the depths of themselves through artistic collaboration; he wants to help people turn those insights into curated and creative departures from the everyday. Since 2011 Tomás’ energy has been beautifully embroidered into the local performance community, first as a poet, and growing into a sought-after event host and mentor/coach to up-and-coming poets, authors, and speakers. As a founder of Shyne Through he aims to help facilitate individual and community-based projects, workshops, experiences, and other opportunities for local creators of all ages; new, old, known, and unknown!
